Warship
Pictorial #15
|
Classic Warships has released the 15th book in its series of Naval Monographs of Warships. Book #15 covers a unique subject; The Kriegsmarine Schnellboote of WWII.
In this series, an
entire class of ships is covered. The book covers all of the Schnellbootes from
S-1 built in 1930, through S-709 built in 1944/45. The book is in the same format of all of the previous
books and is 72 pages long.
The Schnellboote (S-Boot) was a large high speed motor torpedo boot designed for
fast hit-and-run missions. Approximately 245 were built for the Kriegsmarine
between the years 1930-1945. These boats were fast very powerful boats designed
to run in any type of sea condition. These ships carried 2 torpedo tubes with 1
reload for each tube. The ships also carried a variety of cannons and machine
guns for self defense against air and surface targets.
Classic Warships Publishing has gone to great lengths to create a outstanding book on this subject. Steve has conducted considerable research in order to find rare photographs and data on this class of ship. In this book you will find a wealth of photographs, line drawings, and weapons information for the Schnellbootes. Most of the photographs are of good reproduction and are sharp. The centerspread contains information and drawings of camouflage patterns found on some boats. As usual, the first section of the book is devoted to the history of the subject in question and is well written.
Steve Wiper's Classic Warships books are designed to tell the story of the subject with pictures instead of words.
Steve Wiper has become the master of this craft with his series of naval warship books. He
is providing a source of information that few of us have access to and giving it
to us at a
reasonable cost. I would highly recommend this book, or any of Classic Warships publications, to anyone who has a love of ships.
